Project your Thrift Savings Plan balance for Arizona military members โข 2024 Contribution Limits
The Thrift Savings Plan (TSP) is the military equivalent of a 401(k). Under the Blended Retirement System (BRS), DoD automatically contributes 1% of your basic pay and matches up to an additional 4% โ totaling up to 5% free money if you contribute 5%.
Traditional TSP: Contributions are pre-tax, reducing your taxable income now. You pay taxes in retirement. Good if you expect lower taxes in retirement.
Roth TSP: Contributions are post-tax. Withdrawals in retirement are tax-free. Especially valuable for junior enlisted who are in low tax brackets now.
